Mike Schwanke

Mike Schwanke, 54, of Hannibal, MO, passed away at 9:44 AM Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO. 

    Graveside Services and burial with full Military Rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.  Rev. Wes Gehrke will officiate.

Friends and Family are invited to Mike’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.

    Mike was born September 8, 1962, in Mexico, MO to John Gerald Schwanke and Mary V. Bowles Schwanke Epperson.

     Survivors include his mother, Mary Epperson (Gary) of New London, MO; two children, Deanette Schwanke of Jacksonville, IL and Brittney Schwanke of St. Louis, MO; four brothers, John Schwanke (Judy), Jeff Schwanke (Michelle), Tim Schwanke, and Steven Schwanke (Susan); six sisters, Kim Laird, Missie Lake (Tim Marsh), Sherri Halle (Matt), Cindy Cowden (Brent), Laura Epperson, and Sara Whittaker (Skeeter); and three grandchildren, Jacob, Zachary, and Ian Michael.   Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

     Mike was preceded in death by his father, an infant brother, Don Gerald Schwanke, and his grandparents.

Mike served his country in both the United States Air Force and in the United States Army.    

Mike was the former co-owner of Schwanke Directional Drilling and had also previously worked in other construction projects.

Mike enjoyed deer hunting and fishing on Mark Twain Lake and playing golf.  He also loved to play darts and cards, especially, “Texas Hold’em”.  College basketball and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball were both sports that Mike took pleasure in following.  Mike was also an avid reader of western novels by Louis L’Amour.  Most of all he cherished the time that he shared with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

     Memorial contributions may be made to Mike's Grandchildren's Education Fund (make checks payable to Deanette Schwanke) or to the American Heart Association in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

     Pallbearers will be Eric Schwanke, Dusty Ferguson, Randy Smith, Dalton Schwanke, Donovan Schwanke, and Shelton Laird.
