Letter from Ralls RII Superintendent, Tara Lewis
Ralls County R-II Parents & Guardians,
After meeting with the Ralls County Health Department and reviewing the newest COVID-19 positive diagnosis, doubling yesterday from 8 to 16, we agree it is in the best interest of our community to dismiss school at the conclusion of today, Wednesday, March 18, 2020, through April 15, 2020. The closure may be extended beyond April 15th depending on the status of COVID-19. I will continue to provide updates through written communication over the next several weeks. The days of missed school during the pandemic are not required to be made up due to a special waiver. We will not be extending our school year beyond our last day of May 15th.
Beginning tomorrow, March 19, 2020, our employees will be working to provide the services our Ralls County R-II families count on, including education, support services, and meals. Meal delivery will begin March 19th and will be available all normally scheduled school days. Our faculty are ready to provide both on-line and paper/pencil learning for our students K-12. It is important to maintain learning during this closure so our students do not experience a learning slump. Teachers will continue to assess students and their learning during the closure.
The Ralls County Health Department asked me to share the following hotline number of 877-435-8411 for any COVID-19 questions and concerns you or family members may have. At this time there are no COVID-19 test kits available in Ralls County; the nearest location is Hannibal Regional Hospital, but the test will only be utilized on patients who exhibit symptoms requiring the test.
During our closure, all school events, practices, and activities will be cancelled, with make-up dates scheduled when possible. Chromebooks and/or paper learning materials will be sent home with students today. Meals will be available to be delivered to all PK-12 students during regular school days as well as stops in each town for grab/go meals to ensure nutrition is maintained during an extended closure. If you have not already done so, please complete the survey at the following link: https://forms.gle/MyAuvVobSQmZF35a8
If your student has medicine at school, please contact our office to make arrangements to pick this up. We will not be able to send medicine home with your student.
