Evelyn Perkins, 81, of New London, Missouri, passed away at 2:47 PM Thursday, January 30, 2020, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of New London, MO. Rev. Lindell Robbins will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in New London, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to Evelyn’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.
Evelyn was born September 22, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee to John Stephenson and Beatrice Davis Stephenson.
She was married to Harry J. Perkins on September 23, 1969. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1997.
Survivors include four children, Robert Wayne Stevenson of New London, MO, Jackie Claxton of New London, MO, Kathleen Claxton of Columbia, MO and Steven Perkins (Michelle) of Bolingbrook, Illinois, two brothers, Edward Davis of Jefferson City, MO, Curtis Davis (Yolanda) of Corpus Christi, Texas, two sisters, Bobbie Hall of Lima, OH, Jewel Holt of Fulton, IL and one sister in law, Fannie Griffin. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Anthony, Mirisa, Tiffany, Tanika, Teneil, Grant and Elissa, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, two brothers, John Earl Stephenson, Robert Mitchell and one sister, Addie B. Davis.
Professionally Evelyn was a seamstress. She worked at Cerf Brothers in New London, MO for over 29 years.
Away from work Evelyn loved to spend time with her family. A talented cook, Evelyn made the best spaghetti and often enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. A shopper at heart, Evelyn’s sense of style was unmatched and she was always up for a shopping trip. Supporting her children always, Evelyn loved to attend her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Trips to Memphis to visit family, watching her favorite soap opera, “The Young and the Restless” and blues music were a few of Evelyn’s pleasures. Evelyn also enjoyed volunteering with Hannibal's Foster Grandparents program. Most of all she cherished the moments she shared with her family and friends.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Helping Hands Baptist Church. She loved her church and especially enjoyed singing in the choir there.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Hicks, Grant Perkins, Allen Erby, Eddie Padilla, Timothy Ford, Mose Richardson, Randy Wells, Brian Burton, Gian Griffin and Lenoice White.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
