Annual St. Paul Ice Cream Social Held

August 09, 2019

Members of St. William Catholic Church from Perry, Center, and the surrounding area came together for the annual St. Paul Ice Cream Social on Sunday, August 4. Many friends and family who once attended Mass at St. Paul joined them for homemade ice cream, cakes, and pies.
Money from the social and the raffle are used to maintain the church which was established in 1859. Recognized as the Mother Church of the Roman Catholic Faith in northeast Missouri, western Illinois, and southeast Iowa, it is a National Historic Landmark. The Church was built with local Chouteau limestone. The Sanctuary has been restored and modern facilities have been put into place. The Lady of Our Sorrows was built in 1933.
There was a large crowd enjoying the festivities and the REALLY good food and many flavors of ice cream. A raffle is also held each year with prizes donated by local supporters. This year’s winners were whole hog and processing – Jan Garner; afghan – Joni Hobbs; $50.00 cash – Arte Whelan; $50.00 cash – Dena Taylor; wet/dry vacuum – Randall Little; $30 Wal-Mart gift card – Barb Greenwell; gift certificate to Thomas Auto Parts – Mike and Judy Couch; $50 cash – Ron and Wanda Lehmen; red cedar mailbox – Ron Berry.
