24th Annual Hannibal Cannibal A Huge Success

Saturday, July 6th marked the 24th running of the Hannibal Cannibal 5/10/15K Run, 5K Walk and Fun Run. This year’s event was a huge success with 1,700 participants. The event, which raised funds for Hannibal Regional Foundation’s Building BETTER Tomorrows Campaign, raised over $53,000 for the surgical portion of the campaign. Additionally, these funds will be matched dollar for dollar through a challenge grant by the Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Participants came from 26 states to participate in this year’s Cannibal. Winners included the following:
5K Overall Winners - MALE: 1st- Miles Sheppard, Warsaw, Illinois, 16:40; 2nd- Collin Cerniak, Kansas City, Kansas, 16:58 and 3rd - Nathan Rose, Hannibal, Missouri, 19:05. FEMALE: 1st - Delaney Straus, Philadelphia, Missouri, 21:49; 2nd - Alexandria Meyers, Quincy, Illinois, 22:38; and 3rd -Meredith O’Neal, Shelbina, Missouri, 22:54.
10K Overall Winners – MALE: 1st- Benjamin Naeger, St. Genevieve, Missouri, 32:38; 2nd -Neil Segel, Houston, Texas, 37:36; 3rd Cyle Butenhoff, Lonedell, Missouri, 41:37. FEMALE: 1st - Erica Lindsay, Pittsburg, Maryland, 45:54; in 2nd -Carly Garnett, Carthage, Illinois, 46:00; 3rd - Lily Ende, Des Moines, Iowa, 46:33.
15K Overall Winners – MALE: 1st -Thomas Cormier, Kirksville, Missouri, 53:19; 2nd - Schuyler Ogden, Farmington, Missouri, 54:04; 3rd - Andrew Derndt, Des Moines, Iowa, 55:09. FEMALE: 1st -Renee White of Michael, Illinois, 1:06:17; 2nd - Crystal Hudak, Hannibal, Missouri, 1:06:52; 3rd - Sandy Mason, Macomb, 1:08:15.
“Despite the heat and humidity, everyone came out,” says Race Director Angie Wilcoxson, “and they all seemed to be having fun. That’s what I like to see. We have great sponsors and volunteers that help to make this race one of the best, so when the participants get here, I want them to enjoy the event so they will come back year after year.”
