RC Library Sponsors Summer Activities

The Ralls County Library is currently registering children in their Summer Reading program. Children enrolled will receive an introductory packet and a paper explaining how many books per age are to be read for competition of the program.
The program is designed for infants to 12th graders. Parents can read books to the children who cannot read for themselves. Mark Twain unior and senior high students at who complete the Summer Reading Program will receive 25% of their first quarter AR points. Everyone who completes the Summer Reading program requirements will receive a prize at the end of the program which runs from June 24 through August 2.
The library will sponsor other events throughout the summer. Summer Crafts for the older youth will be held on Thursdays during morning and evening Story Hour. Morning Story Hour is at 10 a.m. and evening Story Hour is at 6 p.m. The first one is Cupcake Decorating at the June 27 morning session. Following are Nature Paper Sunlight Collages at the July 11 morning and evening sessions; Canvas painting of a picture at the July 18 morning session; Sand Art Painting at the July 25 morning session and Canvas Painting at the evening session; Create Your Own Hat at the August 1 morning session; Air Plat Terrarium at the August 8 morning session and Create Your Own Hat at the evening session; and Wind Chimes at the August 15 morning session and Air Plant Terrariums at the evening session.
On June 20 the library will host a Dinosaur Picnic at both the morning and evening sessions. This event will be detailed on the library’s Facebook page and those who plan to attend will need to RSVP so meals and drinks can be provided for parents and children attending.
On July 11 Pete the Cat will be at the library to visit with the children and to do some fun activities with them. Pete will be at both the morning and evening Story Hour sessions.
Missouri Master Naturalist Kathy Moore will be at the library on August 8 to talk about bats. Children will be able to see the bats up close and learn about these interesting creatures and their place in out community. She will be presenting at both the morning and evening Story Hour sessions.
The library continues to sign up children ages 0-5 years old for free books from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library delivered monthly through the mail to Ralls County residents. Registration can be done at the library or by going online to the ImaginationLibrary.com website.
