Ralls Board of Equalization to Begin Meetings
Ralls County Clerk, Sandy Lanier, has announced that the Board of Equalization will begin meeting in July. The Board of Equalization will hear those Ralls County property owners who disagree with the assessed valuation of their real estate or personal property as established by the Ralls County Assessor for the 2019 tax year.
Appointments must be made to meet with the board before July 8th. Meetings will start at 9:00 a.m. on July 8th and will run through 4 p.m. on July 31st. Property owners may call the Ralls County Clerk’s office at 573-985-7111 to arrange an appointment.
There are steps involved in this process, the first being an informal hearing with Ralls County Assessor, Josh Ketsenburg. The purpose of this initial contact would be to exchange information and discuss the value of the property involved. Assessor Ketsenburg can be reached at 573-985-5671.
If the property owner and Assessor Ketsenburg are unable to reach a resolution, then the next step is to call the Ralls County Clerk, Sandy Lanier, and schedule an appointment with the Board of Equalization to appeal the assessment. There are forms to be completed for this appeal and the forms are available from the Ralls County Clerk’s office.
Property owners who appear before the Board of Equalization should have the required forms completed and should be prepared to present evidence to establish what they believe is the correct value of their property. An appraisal is not necessary at this point.
If the property owner is not successful with the Board of Equalization, then the appeal may be heard by the State Tax Commission and finally by the Circuit Clerk.
The first two steps have to be completed by July 8th - contact Assessor Ketsenburg and, if needed, make an appointment with Clerk Lanier.
