Ralls County Landowners Travel to Capital
Once again, Ralls County landowners traveled to Jefferson City to discuss HB 1062 with their representatives. Western Commissioner John Lake provided a bus for Ralls County citizens who wished to attend the Senate hearing scheduled for Wednesday, May 1.
More than 30 people attended the hearings with residents from Monroe, Caldwell, and Randolph counties. Several people spoke in favor of HB 1062 which seeks to protect Missouri landowners from the use of eminent domain by foreign investors to gain rights to rights of way land over the opposition of the landowners. Among those speaking in favor of the bill were Ralls County Presiding Commissioner Wiley Hibbard, Marilyn O’Bannon, spokeswoman for the Eastern Missouri Landowners Alliance, and Rep. Jim Hansen. Farm Bureau representative B. J. Tanksley was also on hand to lend support for the bill.
The Senate Committee voted on the bill Monday, May 6.
