Following in Their Footsteps
On Tuesday, October 9th, Mark Twain High School hosted a Junior High football game against the Van-Far Indians. The Junior High Tigers culminated their season with a 16-6 win and a 6-0 record. Four years ago, in 2015, our junior high team had an undefeated season, as well. It just so happens that some of the players this year had their older brothers pave the way for them. Eighth graders, Jaxen Lake, Lukas McLeod, and Conner Eckler all have older brothers that participated in the 2015 undefeated season. Jace Barton, Brayden McLeod, and Preston Eckler set an example for their younger brothers on the field.
All of the younger brothers agree that it is a good feeling to follow in their brother’s footsteps with an undefeated season. Conner Eckler said with a smile, “It feels good because he [Preston] can’t really talk trash on me anymore.”
The three younger athletes agree that their older brothers showed them how to be focused, good leaders, and determined.
“I think that it is amazing to see him accomplish what we did. I think that if they stick together, they can do some great things,” said Preston. The older brothers are proud of their younger siblings and are looking forward to seeing how they contribute to the team next year. “Even though he [Jaxen] doesn't say it, I think I am a big role model for him,” Jace remarked.
Jaxen, Lukas, and Conner were all pleased with the turnout of their season and look forward to playing in high school.
