Anna Cardwell Cause of Death: A Life Cut Short by Cancer

Anna Cardwell, also known as Chickadee, gained fame as a reality TV star on shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Mama June: From Not to Hot. As the eldest daughter of Mama June and sister to Honey Boo Boo, Anna was also a mother to two daughters, Kaitlyn and Kylee.

Tragically, Anna Cardwell passed away on December 9, 2023, at the age of 29, following a 10-month battle with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma—a rare and aggressive form of cancer affecting the adrenal glands. Her family and boyfriend, Eldridge Toney, confirmed her peaceful passing at home.

A Troubled Childhood

Born on August 28, 1994, in McIntyre, Georgia, Anna Cardwell faced a challenging childhood, marked by abuse from her mother’s boyfriend, Mark McDaniel. Despite McDaniel’s conviction and imprisonment, Anna remained estranged from her mother, alleging Mama June’s failure to protect her. This strained relationship persisted even when Mama June resumed ties with McDaniel after his release in 2014. Anna also accused her mother of financial betrayal involving stolen funds intended for her and her daughter, Kaitlyn, who was born with a unique hand condition.

Anna Cardwell distanced herself from her family at 18, marrying mechanic Michael Cardwell in 2014. Their union produced two daughters, Kaitlyn (2012) and Kylee (2015), but ended in divorce in 2017.

A Reality TV Star

Anna Cardwell rose to prominence on the TLC show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, a ratings hit from 2012 to 2014. She later appeared on the WE tv show Mama June: From Not to Hot in 2017, chronicling her family’s journey, including her reconciliation with Mama June and her cancer diagnosis.

Known as Chickadee on the shows, Anna was recognized for her outspoken personality and love for her daughters.

A Battle with Cancer

In January 2023, Anna Cardwell received a stage 4 adrenal carcinoma diagnosis, leading to surgery and subsequent chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the cancer had spread, prompting a shift to immunotherapy. Despite her fight, Anna chose to stop chemotherapy in July 2023. The immunotherapy also proved ineffective, and her health rapidly declined, marked by severe pain, nausea, fatigue, and weight loss.

Doctors delivered the devastating news of terminal cancer, offering Anna only a few months to live. She opted to spend her remaining time with family and friends, also planning to donate her brain to the Concussion Legacy Foundation.

Anna Cardwell passed away on December 9, 2023, at her Chattanooga, Tennessee home, surrounded by loved ones, with her ashes scattered in the ocean.
